AstroDay Chile 2010

AstroDay Chile gathered 2,000 people in a downtown venue in La Serena. A total of 17 institutions from Chile, Brazil, Argentina and Colombia participated in this long 12 hour astronomical day.

The Gemini booth had a very succesful “Ask the Astronomer” corner. Here, Gemini South’s Nelson Zárate interacts with curious young people.

One of the most succesful workshops, Rocket Making and Launching took place at the Plaza de Armas in La Serena, where about a dozen rockets flew close to the Cathedral and the Local Government building.

Many institutions brought their telescopes for AstroDay Chile’s audience to have a first experience in night sky.

A total of 6 oral presentations were offered to the community. Here Father Piccetti from Observatory Cerro Mayu talks about Dark Matter.
